—His story

Dor Kham Song

History: Dor Kham Song was rescued from an illegal trade operation intended for a Middle Eastern zoo. As he was set to be transported from Vientiane International Airport with 12 other elephants, a groundbreaking order from the Prime Minister’s office declared the sale illegal under Lao law. Originally trained to perform degrading circus tricks, he now thrives in the nurturing environment of the Elephant Conservation Center (ECC).

Today, Dor Kham Song enjoys a fulfilling life at the ECC, where he is integrated into our socialisation (reherd) and reproduction programmes. He has formed strong bonds with other male elephants, benefiting from their companionship and support. Through our ongoing conservation efforts, we are dedicated to ensuring that he, along with the other rescued elephants, contributes to the regeneration of Laos’s declining elephant population.
